It's often desirable to convert DVD movies to an electronic format so they can be viewed as video files directly from your computer or mobile device.

It's great to know that the articles I publish on this site are actually helping people, and thanks to those of you who have taken time to drop me a quick thank you note from time to time.

I try to also spend a little time each day answering questions on Yahoo! Answers, and often refer back to articles I've posted on rickysays.com for more detailed information or reference material.

Members on the Yahoo! Answer site are encouraged to rate other member's answers, and it's always fun to receive the "Best Answer" rating (and is worth 10 points towards your user status level on the site).

Yahoo sends me an email with a link to the question and answer:

Here's a list of the Yahoo! Answers that have been rated best answers over the last few months. Hope you find some of them useful as well!

Should I get an Ipod touch or an LG shine?

Question: I just bought my two daughters Ipod Touch 2nd Gen for Christmas. They are 10 and 12 yrs old and a bit more technology savvy than I when it comes to handhelds. I am concerned about security. I want to filter their internet on the Touch, but I guess it's not really easy because Apple seems to have missed this, other than shutting off their access all together.

Do you know any solutions? I have a wireless network in my home and the girls desktop computers are running Panda and PC Tattletale as per your recommendation. I want to give them internet access, but want to filter the objectionable content out. Just call me "Parentally Cautious". Thanks for any input!

Question: I'd like to put together some training videos for teachers in my district. It's just too hard to get everyone together in the same building, and too expensive to arrange travel for everyone in the current economy.

What tools are available for recording videos or facilitating online training sessions?

Question: I need to send faxes but I don't have a fax machine. Is there a way for me to send and receive faxes using email?

Answer: Yes, you can send and receive faxes without owning a fax machine, just by using software that converts your email program into a fax service. It's called email faxing, and here's how it works:

You install software on your computer that links your email account with your fax number through an email faxing service. When you want to send a fax, you instead send an email and the service converts it to a fax message and delivers it immediately. Simply attach the document you'd like to fax to an email. Input the number of the fax machine to which you'd like to send the fax, and the software handles the rest. You can also send your faxes to multiple recipients online, so you don't have to repeat the procedure again and again (with a new cover letter each time).

Whether you're a PC, Mac, or Linux user there is one common document format that's viewable across multiple operating systems - the Portable Document Format... commonly known as PDF and viewable with Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.

Good question, especially since it's getting closer to the tax filing deadline.

I’ve used TurboTax Online several times, and each time received about $2500 back from Uncle Sam.

TurboTax knows about all of the latest tax laws. For example, this year you can claim a $60 deduction on long distant phone charges without even having to provide a receipt. It’s one of the questions asked by TurboTax, which saved me the cost of using the software right off the bat! :)

I refinanced my home last year as well, and TurboTax walked me through all of the deductions I could take, included points, prepaid interest, and real estate taxes. I like the “interview style” approach that it takes, where it asks you relevant questions and you just have to answer yes or no… and then they tell you if you’re eligible for a deduction.

Even with my self-employment income, TurboTax greatly simplified the Schedule C filing, and helped me find several home office deductions that completely offset my self-employment taxes for the year!
