Can the LightKeeper Pro fix LEDs?
Due to the different physics behind incandescent and LED light sets, the LightKeeper Pro cannot assist with LED light sets. But thankfully, the company behind the LightKeeper Pro also offers the LED Keeper -- the complete kit to repair LED light sets!
How to tell if you are working with incandescents or LEDs?
a) Incandescent bulbs have filaments and tend to get warm when lit a while LEDs do not
b) Remove a bulb and look to see if the wires are offset or not [Offset = LED; Equal height = Incandescent]
c) LEDs have a plastic encasement while incandescent has glass
-
What type of bulbs come with the LightKeeper Pro?
Non-flashing, Clear 2.5 volt Replacement bulbs, 170mA and 0.425 Watts.
Can this tool fix a strand where every other light is out?
The LightKeeper Pro can assist with incandescent light sets that are wired in series, meaning you can remove one bulb from a functional section and the section will become unlit. Typically, if every other bulb is out then we are dealing with a control box or a light set that is not wired in series. The LightKeeper Pro cannot assist with light sets that have control boxes, rope lights, battery operated sets, or LEDs.
-
Why buy this for just a string of lights?
The LightKeeper Pro is great for pre-lit trees, icicle lights, net lights, wreaths, wire frames with lights, and other pre-lit décor!
Does this tool work with 220 Volts?
No, the LightKeeper Pro was designed for 120 Volts only. Thankfully, there is an International LightKeeper available which is designed to work with 220 Volts (outside the U.S.).

Just wow!
Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2024We have an 8-year old pre-lit tree by National Tree with 1,000 lights. It was pricey and we still love the tree. This year whole sections of lights were out. Worried we would be buying a new tree, or at least replacing pre-installed light sets, I scrambled to find a solution. The Light Keeper Pro found the problems in mere minutes! The Quick Fix Trigger repaired faulty shunts that are still unknown to me. I connected the LKP and squeezed the trigger 20 times. Put the bulb back and everything works! The light bulb tester is so handy when there is any doubt. I replaced nearly 50 bulbs that were defective. In fact, this is the first time since new that every light is working on the tree. As a retired aerospace engineer it takes a lot to impress me. The LKP impressed me for sure. Worth every penny to save an $800 tree and a whole lot of hassle.
Here are two important hints. First, if you are dealing with an assembled pre-lit tree, don’t remove a bulb and walk away. Finding the empty socket is a nightmare. I suggest using a bright chip clip to mark the spot. Saved me so much time. Second, if you have an old tree, you will quickly realize that lights sets after 2021 changed base dimensions. The new ones are slightly smaller and do not fit. Over the years, I would pull a burned out bulb and toss it. Now I realize this was a mistake, because I can’t buy new bulbs with the right size base. So, the fix is to replace the bulb in the old base. So don’t throw away the old bases! Trust me on this. The spare bulbs that came with the LKP are high quality and include the shunt circuit. A bonus tip is to run the old incandescent lights on a dimmer and back off on the brightness - we prefer a dimmer tree, especially at night. Dimming will greatly extend the life of the bulbs. I am so happy. Merry Christmas.

It’s a MIRACLE WORKER!
Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2024I have a 9’ Frontgate flocked Prelit Christmas Tree that is approximately 16 years old that I absolutely love. It has 2 parts - the base which is about 7’ high and then the removal top that is about 2’ high. Early on in the Christmas season a good portion of the top’s lights stopped working along with a small portion in the base. Every year when we set up the tree I say a little prayer that the lights work! This was the year that I had been dreading. I spent a lot of time researching online and troubleshooting. I finally decided to take the chance and buy the Light Keeper Pro with low hopes of it fixing my issue. I initially tried it and was still not able to fix my problem. It told me there was a break in the electrical connection but I couldn’t tell what section the break started in. It is close to impossible to discern where the light strings begin and end because one, the lights were professionally wrapped by the manufacturer and so they overlap each other every which way and two, the tree is flocked with a white coating over everything. I decided to replace over 50 bulbs that were not working and had the black stain on the glass and the lights still did not work. I also replaced the 4 fuses in the plugs that supported the top section of the tree. Still nothing. I gave it one last ditch effort in trying one more time with the “gun” technique of the tool where you pull the trigger up to 30 times. I still am in shock but IT WORKED!! The top section lit up!! I added all of this extra detail to help you have faith to NOT GIVE UP! This tool works, the instructions are easy to understand (I know nothing about how to fix electrical items - I just googled everything and watched YouTube videos to figure it out). I also was going to call the company if I could not get it to work myself because they really seem to care about getting your lights to work and will help you to figure it out. I am grateful to them - I get to keep my tree that I love!! THANK YOU!!!

Good product but was initially nervous to use
Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2021The tool promises a lot in the product description. So I was very skeptical and I was not sure exactly how to use it. But the instructions were well crafted. I tested fuses and it worked well to very them as good or not when I had one set of lights night working right.
As for testing bulbs, it worked really well to plug them into tool. Practically speaking though, many of the bulbs have the thin copper wire off to the side that i had to move into the right position to be sure they would work right.
The one feature that I wasn't sure about was a feature that had you plug the tool into a bulb plug in spot. You then have to click the trigger a dozen times or so to force an electrical signal through the light string. This helped with one string where having just one bad bulb made the whole string fail. After doing the click trigger thing with this tool, it didn't have that limitation anymore and the whole string would work and then you could spot which bulbs were failed which were the ones I targeted. Interestingly, it worked on one light string. This feature recovered the entire string. However, on another string, it didn't know anything and. still had 1/2 the light string with dead lights. Nothing I did got the full string working again. I ended up splicing that segment and removing that short segment from the entire string. But the benefit of having the tool made me feel like there was nothing else I could do to try and recover the light.
The good thing about the tool is it does come with some spare bulbs which I ended up using. in fact, I bought a separate set of 50 bulbs to fix bulbs that didn't work.
Something I learned as I worked with the tool is that some bulbs would work, but didn't work when I plug them into the light string. For 70% of those failing lights, I found that twisting the bulb a few degrees clockwise and counterclockwise by grabbing the glass bulb itself fixed the bulbs in some cases where the bulb wouldn't work, but would work with the tool. I had one string where no matter what I did, not even 50% of the bulbs could be fixed of the ones that didn't light up. it just felt really good to have a tool to 100% verify that the bulb was good.

Essential tool for fixing pre-lit Christmas tree lights! 🎄
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024I cannot recommend the LIGHT KEEPER PRO enough! I have a 6-foot pre-lit Christmas tree that's over 5 years old, and ever since last year, it has been a struggle to keep it fully lit. Last year, I spent hours painstakingly replacing bulbs, removing them from their bases, and swapping out over 100 bulbs just to get the tree working. It was frustrating and time-consuming.
This year, the situation was even worse. Only the bottom third of the tree was lit after setup. After replacing about 60 visibly burnt-out bulbs, the tree still wouldn't light up properly. I dreaded the idea of replacing every single bulb to find the one causing the issue.
Enter the LIGHT KEEPER PRO. It arrived the next day, and I put it to use right away. Following the instructions, I inserted an empty bulb plug into the tool, pulled the trigger a few times, and like magic, the lights lit up! I quickly identified a bad bulb on the middle strand, replaced it, and then used the tool again on the top strand. After fixing both problem areas, my tree is now shining beautifully again.
The tool also comes with bonus replacement bulbs beyond the 50 it advertises. I used several of them to replace additional burnt-out ones I noticed once the strands were fully lit and still have about 40 bulbs left.
This tool is a game-changer for anyone dealing with pre-lit Christmas tree strand issues. It is easy to use, incredibly effective, and worth every penny. If you've struggled with unlit strands on your tree, do yourself a favor and get the LIGHT KEEPER PRO. You won't regret it!

It really works if you learn to use it properly!
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2025Okay listen - it works. It works like three different ways. But there's a learning curve. You need to read the instructions and watch the short videos. You have to learn to use it properly. But if you do, it'll save you a ton on money.
Last Christmas I had about a dozen strings and mesh lights go out. I refused to throw them out and stashed them separately. When I got them out this year I despaired and ordered this.
It helped me fix them ALL. Every one. Fixed. Fixed. Saved us a bundle by not having to replace them. That's a dad high you'll be chasing for a while, believe me.
The trigger mechanism works some, but the voltage check, the light tester, invaluable. Believe me - if you spend some time learning to use it, you'll be glad you got it.

Best gadget ever
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2025If you use incandescent lights this is the best thing ever. The functionality of this thing is awesome and how it fixes just about any issue you could have with a strand of incandescent lights. Just a simple pull of the trigger makes it very easy to fix most issues. It also has a tester that brightly lights up the bulbs if they still work. In addition it comes with additional bulbs if you need them. This is definitely worth the money since a good strand of lights will cost you more

Works like a charm
Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024There is a learning curve to make it work, and we almost gave up, but tried again and it worked like a charm. Wish that we'd had it years ago, since we've had light strands go out and have had to replace them. This would have saved us money and hassle almost every year. It's important to follow the instructions and watch the videos to get it right, but once you have learned it, it's actually super easy to use. Most of the problems we had were due to the base of the individual light bulb. Once we found the one that wasn't working, we replaced it with a different bulb (that had a shorter base), and eventually realized we needed to replace the bulb from the old base and then it worked without hassle.

Reviewed in Canada on December 12, 2020This "cool yule tool" (and srsly, why on earth aren't they marketing it under THAT name??) is truly worth the cash. I had my doubts, but went for it, since my pre-lit tree was only half lit this year and 2020 has been such a downer that I was determined to fix my lights rather than buy new ones. This 4-in1 dealio makes checking each light, socket, fuse and circuit easy to do and understand, and that's saying a lot, because I find anything electrical or plumbing-related utterly daunting. I managed to get my tree working within 60 mins. See my Before and After images. Bonus: it boosted my self confidence.

Murphy3 out of 5 starsNothing to write home about but it was okay
Reviewed in Canada on January 8, 2021Pretty sure this tool would work extremely well for tree lights - I bought it for 3 strand icicle lights- when doing the power test on the cord it was not accurate. It did work for repairing the shunts and testing the bulbs and removing some of the more difficult bulbs.
